The first Metallica studio album released in five years
Metallica for the first time since 'The Black Album' used a new producer for their album recording, switching from Bob Rock to Rick Rubin
Metallica released a Coffin Box Set with their regular CD Release which included the actual album, an additional disc full of demos, a making-of DVD, an exclusive T-shirt, guitar picks, a flag and a fold-out poster. Plus, the box will come with a “collectors credit card” embossed with a code you can use to download “a special European show happening in September.” (Thanks RollingStone.Com)
Although the record was leaked early due to early sales in a record store in Paris, France, the album was still released on its set date: September 12, 2008
